Lucas’s Dream Machine

The dragon-flyer swooped and swerved as the kids struggled to control the invention.

“Lucas, watch out for that flagpole!” Clara shouted.

Lucas dodged sideways as people beneath them pointed upward in amazement.

The kids shifted their weight until each wing was perfectly balanced.

Then Lucas pointed the nose of the dragon downward so the wind would flow over the surface of the wings.

The dragon-flyer began to speed forward. Then it began to rise.

“This is so wild!” Clara cried as she searched the sky for Ruskin. The red dragon had gotten a huge head start.

“I know!” Lucas said. “I never thought I was building it for a rescue mission!”

The two friends soared over farms, rivers, and forests. Wrenly looked like a patchwork quilt from on high.
